CHAPTER I

Work

I work on developer tooling — small, opinionated, occasionally finished. The current job is a static-site generator for plain text. The previous job was the same thing under a different name.1

gsg --build --to dist/

// gsg = generic static
//       generator
"The job is to make the next job easier — not to finish anything."
— marginal note, 2025

1 A different name, the same problem, no new ideas — only better intuition.

CHAPTER II

Research

The research is unprofessional, in the technical sense — that is, it is not paid. It concerns the small histories of mistaken software, deprecated APIs, and the protocols nobody uses anymore.2

Currently: a small monograph on the etiquette of footers. (Yes — the things at the bottom of the page.)

"To research what no one has lost is, in the end, a kind of writing."
— field note, 2024

2 A taxonomy of forgetting, in approximately 2,000 words.

CHAPTER III

Writing

The writing is mostly essays, some between 600 and 1,200 words, on subjects I am not qualified to comment on. I treat lack of qualification as a methodology.

  • "On the Etiquette of Footers" — 2026
  • "Why a Folder Is a Promise" — 2025
  • "Five Ways To Read Code Slowly" — 2024
  • "A Brief History of Comments" — 2023

CHAPTER IV

Archive

The archive is the rest. Not the work, not the research, not the writing — the residue. Drawings made while waiting for builds. Photographs of architectural details. Drafts of letters never sent. The archive is private; this page is its preface.

"An archive is what survives the loss of interest."
— epigraph, 2026
