나무 — tree nursery & silviculture
Pinus koraiensis

Korean Pine

The Korean Pine is the flagship of our nursery. A five-needle pine native to the mixed forests of eastern Asia, it grows slowly and deliberately, reaching heights of 30–40m over centuries. Its edible pine nuts have been gathered by foragers for millennia. We propagate from seed stock collected in Gangwon Province, nurturing each seedling through three winters before field placement.

Height at maturity 30–40 m
Growth rate 15–25 cm/yr
Hardiness zone 3–7
Betula pendula

Silver Birch

Pioneer species of the boreal forest, Silver Birch is among the first trees to colonize open ground. Its white bark peels in paper-thin layers, a trait that has made it central to Nordic folk craft for centuries. Our birch stock is selected for vigorous crown development and clean stem form. Each sapling is root-trained in air-pruning containers to ensure strong lateral root growth for transplant resilience.

Height at maturity 15–25 m
Growth rate 30–50 cm/yr
Hardiness zone 2–7
Acer palmatum

Japanese Maple

A tree of extraordinary refinement, cultivated in East Asian gardens for over a thousand years. Its deeply lobed leaves transform through the seasons, from tender spring green through summer's deep burgundy to autumn's incandescent scarlet. At namu.farm we maintain heritage cultivars selected for branching architecture and autumn color intensity. Grafted specimens available from three-year rootstock.

Height at maturity 6–10 m
Growth rate 15–30 cm/yr
Hardiness zone 5–8
Pinus sylvestris

Scots Pine

The great forest tree of Scandinavia, Scots Pine defines the Nordic landscape. Its upper bark peels to reveal warm orange-amber, catching low winter sun. The species tolerates extreme cold, thin soils, and maritime exposure. Our provenance stock originates from high-latitude populations, ensuring adaptation to cold continental climates. Bare-root seedlings available in spring planting season.

Height at maturity 20–35 m
Growth rate 20–40 cm/yr
Hardiness zone 2–7
Metasequoia glyptostroboides

Dawn Redwood

A living fossil, Dawn Redwood was known only from Mesozoic-era fossils until living specimens were discovered in a remote Chinese valley in 1944. It is one of the few deciduous conifers, shedding its feathery needles each autumn in a display of warm amber and copper. Its rapid growth and graceful pyramidal form have made it prized worldwide. We grow from verified wild-type provenance seed to preserve genetic integrity.

Height at maturity 25–40 m
Growth rate 50–80 cm/yr
Hardiness zone 5–8

Seasonal Rhythm

the four phases of the tree farm year

Spring

Mar–May

Propagation and planting. Seed stratification complete. Field transplant of overwintered stock. Root pruning. Graft union inspection.

Summer

Jun–Aug

Active growth monitoring. Irrigation management. Pest surveillance. Softwood cuttings. Crown training and formative pruning of young stock.

Autumn

Sep–Nov

Seed collection and processing. Hardwood cuttings. Field assessment and inventory. Root-ball preparation for autumn dispatch. Dormancy onset monitoring.

Winter

Dec–Feb

Cold stratification of seed. Equipment maintenance. Record-keeping and provenance documentation. Planning for spring propagation cycle. Bare-root lifting in mild spells.

About the nursery

나무를 기르는 곳

namu.farm is a small-scale tree nursery practicing considered silviculture. We propagate and grow trees from documented provenance seed, maintaining genetic records for every specimen. Our methods draw from both traditional Korean forestry knowledge and Nordic silvicultural practice. Each tree is grown with patience—we work on the timescale of forests, not markets.

Located in the transitional climate zone where temperate broadleaf meets boreal conifer, our site provides ideal conditions for a diverse species range. Visitors welcome by appointment during the growing season.
