Premises

Three foundations a day of clear thought rests upon. Hold them up to the light.

01

Identity

A thing is what it is. Whatever name we give it, the thing itself does not waver while we name it.

A ≡ A
02

Consistency

A statement and its denial cannot both be true at once. If they seem to be, one of them has been mistaken for something else.

¬(A ∧ ¬A)
03

Sufficient Reason

Nothing is the case for nothing. Whatever is, has a reason for being so — even when the reason hides itself.

∀x ∃r · cause(r, x)

A Small Reveal

The simplest argument, laid out one pane at a time.

premise 1

If A, then B.

premise 2

A.

therefore

B.

Modus ponens, in three quiet panes.

A Worked Example

A syllogism, offset by intention rather than by accident.

  1. P1

All things that follow from clear premises are themselves clear.

  2. P2

This conclusion follows from clear premises.

  3. This conclusion is itself clear.

this is what logical reasoning looks like
