layer-2.quest

Explore the scaling frontier.

Layer 1: The Foundation

Every blockchain begins with a base layer -- a foundation of trust, consensus, and immutability. Layer 1 is where transactions are validated, blocks are produced, and the canonical state of the network lives. It is security itself, encoded as protocol.

But foundations have limits. As usage grows, the base layer becomes congested. Fees rise. Confirmation times stretch. The foundation holds, but it strains under the weight of its own success.

Layer 2: The Ascent

Layer 2 solutions build atop the foundation. Rollups bundle hundreds of transactions into a single proof submitted to Layer 1. State channels open private corridors between parties, settling only the final result on-chain. Sidechains run parallel consensus, periodically anchoring back to the base.

The result: faster confirmations, lower fees, and near-infinite scalability -- all without sacrificing the security guarantees of the foundation below.
