바다

파도

The sea remembers every shore it has ever touched. Each wave carries the memory of a thousand coastlines, depositing fragments of distant beaches onto new sand.

In Korean, the word for sea -- 바다 -- shares its root with the word for outside, for the vast beyond. The sea is always the other place.

At forty meters depth, red light vanishes entirely. The world becomes monochrome blue, and your blood, if spilled, appears green.

Oceanographers call it the "deep scattering layer" -- a phantom seafloor made of billions of organisms that rise and fall with the sun, the largest migration on Earth.

깊이

Light does not reach here.

Pressure builds at one atmosphere per ten meters.

Below the photic zone, all light is made by the living.
