EXHIBIT 4

The cipher problem

A series of letters was found scratched into the underside of the desk: VTWZQRP. Each one is offset by an irrational number we have not yet identified.

The shift is not numeric — it is emotional. The further from comfort, the further the letter slips.

...torn from a journal,

found pressed inside a hollowed copy of a chemistry textbook. Author unknown.

Three premises

  1. The puzzle was solved before it was written.
  2. The solver did not understand what they had solved.
  3. That misunderstanding became the riddle.
