Pragmatic Magic Theory
A grimoire for those who engineer their magic systems
Chapter 1: What is PMT?
Pragmatic Magic Theory treats fictional magic systems as engineering problems. Every spell is a function. Every mana pool is a resource budget. Every incantation is an API call.
PMT asks: if magic were real, how would we build it? What would the documentation look like? What would the edge cases be?
Any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from engineering.
Chapter 2: The Framework
Source
Where does the magic come from? Internal mana, ley lines, divine gift, or ambient aether?
Cost
What is the price? Exhaustion, life force, material components, or cognitive load?
Limit
What can it NOT do? The boundaries define the system more than the capabilities.
Effect
What does it produce? Transformation, creation, destruction, information, or control?
Chapter 3: Why .moe?
The .moe domain (萌え) signals that this is the subcultural, fan-community side of PMT. This is where theory meets passion, where world-building becomes an act of devotion.
Like a doujin circle at Comiket, pmt.moe exists in the space between academic rigor and creative enthusiasm. We take magic systems seriously because we love them.
The best magic systems are the ones you can't stop thinking about.
