beauty in the broken

The crack in the teabowl is not a flaw. It is where the light enters. It is where the gold runs.

wabi-sabi: imperfection as completeness

Works

Morning Bowl

A raku-fired tea bowl with crazing that maps the heat's memory. No two firings produce the same pattern. This one cracked at 1200 degrees and was repaired with gold.

Ceramic / Kintsugi / 2025

Evening Vessel

Stoneware vessel thrown slightly off-center on purpose. The wobble in its rim is the maker's signature, as individual as a fingerprint in wet clay.

Stoneware / Wheel-thrown / 2024

Mended Plate

A dinner plate that shattered into seven pieces. Each seam is now traced in lacquer and gold dust. The mending took longer than the making. That is the point.

Porcelain / Kintsugi / 2025

金継ぎ — to join with gold

Process

Dig the clay. Feel its weight, its moisture, its memory of the earth.

Shape with hands, not plans. The form emerges from the conversation between maker and material.

Fire. Let go of control. The kiln decides the final color, the final form, the final truth.

When it cracks, repair with gold. The break becomes the most beautiful part.
