A Botanical Field Report on Value

Field Report · MMXXVI

Finding I

The Root System of Value

Every system of value grows from invisible roots. Like the mycorrhizal networks beneath a forest floor, the mechanisms of exchange operate in darkness -- invisible, patient, and fundamentally cooperative. The root system of 값 (gabs) reaches deeper than any individual transaction. It connects buyer to seller, past to future, need to fulfillment.

This field report documents what we found when we dug beneath the surface of commerce and discovered a living architecture of mutual dependence.

Finding II

The Canopy of Exchange

7.2B Daily Transactions
180+ Active Currencies
5000 Years of Trade

Above the root system, the canopy of global exchange spreads its branches across every continent. Each leaf is a transaction, each branch a supply chain, each trunk a marketplace. The canopy breathes -- inhaling raw materials and exhaling finished goods, cycling value through the ecosystem in an endless photosynthesis of commerce.

Finding III

Specimen: The Concept of Worth

gabs

Korean: value, price, worth. The irreducible unit of exchange. What something costs is not what it is worth; what it is worth is not what you would pay. Between these three quantities lies the entire field of economics.

End of Report

The field study continues. Value, like nature, is never fully catalogued.
