Every typeface ever designed is a variation on a theme that was established when the first scribe realized that a mark on a surface could carry sound across time.
Reproduction is never perfect. Each copy introduces variation — a stroke thickened, a curve softened, a terminal sharpened. This is how alphabets evolve: not through design but through the accumulated imprecisions of ten thousand scribes copying ten thousand copies.
