II · The Grant

That which is licensed

Whereas the undersigned, in full possession of authorial faculty, doth grant the bearer of this scroll a perpetual, revocable usufruct over the contained text — its phrasing, its punctuation, its silences — to be exercised in good faith and never against its grain.

The grant covers reading, citation, transformation under attribution, and the careful borrowing of cadence. It does not cover the laundering of voice, the resale of breath, nor the wholesale assumption of identity by mechanical or human means.

This is not a contract of sale. It is a contract of tenancy: the words remain rooted in their author. You are renting a window onto them, lit by a candle that someone else lit first.

Each license requires a name, a witness, and a single trembling line of ink — no more, no less.
