Masquerade Protocol

§ A clandestine reading society, low-orbit, members only.

FOLIO · I EST. 1986 / 1998 / NOW
PROTOCOL/II::DOMINO_03
Chapter II

The Domino

Choose your half-mask. Each carries an unspoken rule, an angle of approach, a shade of pretense. The protocol asks no name — only a posture1.

Identity online is choreographed; the carnival is just an honest stage.

A translucent pink domino will follow your cursor; the layout will shift twelve pixels and pretend not to remember its old self.

PROTOCOL/III::DOSSIER_07
Chapter III

The Dossier

Seven articles, unfolded around the spine. Footnotes drift into the gutters; the seal stamps neon cyan.

i. On Entrance

A visitor presents no name, only a domino. The protocol greets the mask and ignores the wearer 2.

ii. On Silence

Reading rooms are kept hush; conversations float as marginalia. Speak only in the margins, never across the spine.

iii. On Shape

Shapes are signatures. A squiggle marks the curious, a dotted sphere the methodical, a zig-zag the impatient. We will not say which you are.

iv. On Light

Neon is reserved for hover. We do not burn the eye; we only let it know that the page noticed.

v. On Footnotes

Every claim drags a tail of ink into the margin. The footnote is not punishment; it is a small handshake with what came before.

vi. On Recoil

Where a gesture would mistake the protocol, the page recoils — a three-step shake, witty, never punitive 3.

vii. On Departure

You will sign the register on the last folio. We will keep the signature; we will forget the name.

PROTOCOL/V::UNMASKING_END
Chapter V

The Unmasking

The carnival ends. The lamp dims. You take the domino off — quietly, as is custom — and place it on the shelf where the next visitor will find it.

I have read the protocol & understood my domino.
