예산이란

예산 (yesan) carries two lives in one syllable. As a verb-noun it means budget — the act of allocating, planning, and imagining how resources might flow. As a place, it is the quiet county of South Chungcheong Province, famous for apples, low hills, and morning mist over the Ye River.

This is a space at the intersection of both meanings: structured inquiry into how things are measured, and the misty poetry of what cannot be reduced to numbers.

A budget is a hypothesis about the future — a grid imposed on the unruly flow of time and resource. Like a Korean paper screen (창호지), it defines space through structure while remaining translucent, letting light and shadow through.

The grid breaks not out of failure, but by design. Where lines refuse to align, meaning accumulates. The torn edge is the interesting part.

03 / space

여백 (yeobaek) — the empty space, the margin, the part of the paper that holds the breath between strokes. In Korean ink painting tradition, 여백 is not absence but presence: the emptiness is where the viewer's imagination completes the composition.

In a budget, 여백 is the contingency reserve. The known unknown. The space held open for what hasn't arrived yet.
