In the beginning was a glow — not light, exactly, but the memory of light filtered through amber. The universe of Xanadu unfolds as a series of nested chambers, each warmer than the last. Astronomers here measure distance in honey, not parsecs.
A summary atlas of the dome — its corridors, its echoing atria, its forbidden libraries. Every chamber connects to three others, but only by routes the visitor must discover.
Trees in the eastern atrium produce fruit that hums in minor keys. Documented species include the Murmuring Quince and the Bell-Pear.
It is recorded that the third Khan, in his fever-dream, devised an apparatus to render sunlight into a slow-flowing syrup. The recipe is preserved in a glass cabinet in the Atrium of Reflections, although its working is contested by every scholar of the dome.
