矛盾 #000 // THESIS

EVERY
TRUTH
HAS A
SHADOW.

We claim certainty. We rehearse doubt. The page you are reading believes itself.

矛盾 #000 // ANTITHESIS

EVERY
SHADOW
HIDES A
TRUTH.

We rehearse doubt. We claim certainty. The page you are reading distrusts itself.

PROPOSITION A

FREEDOM
REQUIRES
STRUCTURE.

Without rules, choice has no shape. The empty room is not free — it is merely empty. Constraint is the silhouette that allows movement to be seen.

PROPOSITION B

STRUCTURE
FORBIDS
FREEDOM.

Every rule excludes a possibility. The room with rules is the room you cannot leave. The shape that allows motion is the shape that limits it.

矛盾 #002 // COLLISION
FORCE

THE
UNSTOPPABLE
SPEAR.

It pierces what cannot be pierced. By definition: nothing resists it. By definition: it has never been stopped, and it never will.

COUNTERFORCE

THE
IMPENETRABLE
SHIELD.

Nothing pierces it. By definition: it resists everything. By definition: it has never failed, and it never will.

OBSERVED

CHANGE
IS THE
ONLY CONSTANT.

Heraclitus stepped into a river twice and found two rivers. The world refuses to stand still long enough to be photographed.

" πάντα ῥεῖ — everything flows. — Heraclitus
REMEMBERED

CONSTANCY
IS THE
ONLY CHANGE.

Parmenides stepped into nothing, because nothing moves, because motion is illusion. What we call change is the eye blinking on a still image.

" οὐδὲν γίγνεται — nothing comes to be. — Parmenides
矛盾 #004 // INTERFERENCE
SPEAKER

I AM
LYING.

If true, then false. If false, then true. The sentence eats its tail. Read it again: it has not changed and yet you are no longer who you were.

LISTENER

YOU ARE
TELLING THE
TRUTH.

Belief, once granted, cannot be refunded. The listener has already accepted the contradiction. Doubt arrives late, after the fact has settled.

矛盾 // MANIFESTO

WE BELIEVE

that contradictions are the structural beams of thought. That to refuse a paradox is to refuse to think clearly about anything that matters. That every clean answer is a question wearing a costume.

— signed, the editorial board

WE DOUBT

our own belief. We suspect this manifesto. We notice that "we believe in contradictions" is a non-contradictory belief, which is itself a contradiction we have not yet named.
