序 · prologue
There is a particle in Korean — 까지 — and one in Japanese — まで — that do the same quiet work.
They draw a line from here to somewhere and gesture at the place where the line should stop.
意味 · meaning
Until, up to, as far as.
It marks an endpoint without claiming it. The boundary is implied, not arrived at. A line reaching toward a wall it never touches.
In English we approximate it with three words; in Korean and Japanese it is one breath, one syllable trailing into space.
