I keep dates nobody asked me to keep.
2009-11-02 — the night the marquee shorted out and we read by phone light.
Some are anniversaries of nothing. A bus missed. A door that stayed shut. A song that played twice.
I write them down because the calendar is the only witness that does not change its story.

2012-11-11 — made eleven wishes, used none.
2013-03-23 — stood under the marquee in the rain.
2013-09-05 — alphabetised the postcards you sent.
2014-01-19 — kept the dressing-room key.
2014-04-09 — left. again.
2014-10-30 — counted backwards from the last good year.
2015-02-06 — folded the map along the route we never took.
2015-08-27 — re-read the ticket stub until the ink came off.
2016-03-14 — walked the long way to keep the date longer.
2016-12-02 — left the porch light on for no one.
2017-05-20 — kept your seat warm at a film you'd hate.
2017-11-08 — scratched a constellation into the table.
2018-01-31 — paid the parking meter for an empty space.
2018-07-04 — watched the fireworks from the side that's quieter.
2019-02-12 — addressed an envelope I'll never seal.
2019-09-18 — taught myself the long division of a year.
2020-03-22 — kept the appointment with the closed door.
2020-10-13 — re-stitched the journal cover by lamp.
2021-04-07 — pressed another daisy. last one I had.
2021-12-31 — read the whole ledger aloud to the dark.
2022-06-15 — added a date that hasn't happened yet.
2023-03-09 — confirmed nothing. recorded everything.
2024-04-09 — left. always the ninth.
2025-02-28 — kept this one for you.
I do not schedule. I record.
