Chapter I
Letters as Architecture
The capital A is a roof beam balanced upon two splayed legs, a tent pitched against the wind of an empty page. It carries weight; it casts a shadow. In the haunted workshop, the A pretends to be a structure — until you turn your back, at which point it shifts a centimeter to the left and waits to be noticed.

Two-bellied beast. Hoards inkwells beneath its lower bowl and snores in iambs through the long winter.
B — Bestiary of the Bowl
Chapter II
Letters as Creatures
B is a creature of two stomachs. A round-bellied glyph that purrs when read aloud and bristles when whispered. Its upper bowl houses a single dim candle; the lower, an entire family of phantoms that mistake the page for a meadow.

Half-moon scribe. Catches whispered vowels in its open mouth and exhales them as faint constellations.
C — Constellation of the Crescent
Chapter III
Letters as Constellations
C is a celestial fragment — an arc cut from the night and pressed flat against vellum. It is incomplete by design, an eternal half-moon that gathers the gossip of nearby letters and stores it in the hollow of its curve.
Astronomers of the workshop chart the migrations of the crescent letters: C, G, O, and the rarely-glimpsed ɔ — a wayward cousin spotted only on solstice nights.

Twinned-self. Steps out of its own shadow at noon and shakes its silhouette dry on the windowsill.
D — Doppelgänger of the Doorway
Chapter IV
Letters as Doubles
D walks beside itself. It is a doorway and the figure standing in it — a glyph whose vertical stem is the threshold and whose half-bowl is whatever leans against the jamb, waiting to be ushered in or out.
In spirit photography, D is the easiest letter to capture. Its second self loiters three pixels behind, slightly out of focus, eternally just-arriving.

The most-spoken ghost. Three rungs of a tiny ladder leading up to whatever was said about it last.
E — Echoes of the Ladder
Chapter V
Letters as Echoes
E is the most-pronounced of all glyphs and therefore the one with the longest tail. Each utterance leaves a small residue clinging to the typebar; over centuries, the workshop's E-bin has filled to the brim with the powdered remains of a billion conversations.
If you press your ear against the page on a quiet evening, you may hear the bin whispering back.
