Precision Over Speed

A rushed repair creates two problems where there was one. The split between doing and documenting is where the real learning happens. Every washer, every shim, every orientation -- catalogued.

The Differential

Rebuilding a 1972 differential gear train. Every tooth must mesh perfectly or the whole system fails. Fourteen hours of measuring, shimming, and re-measuring. The click when it finally seats -- that sound is worth every minute.

Hydraulic Resurrection

A forty-year-old hydraulic press with a seized ram. The seals are shot, the cylinder is scored, but the frame is solid cast iron. Some machines earn the right to be saved through the sheer stubbornness of their construction.

Carburetor Alchemy

Fine-tuning a Weber DCOE. The needle valve whispers at quarter-turn increments. Too lean and the engine starves; too rich and it drowns. The perfect mixture lives in a space thinner than a feeler gauge.
