A Place for Undoing

There is a chair here that nobody else has chosen. The cushion is faded, the wood is warm. You can sit and unbecome — letting the morning unsay itself, letting the harsh word return to its mouth, letting the closed door open back into the room you meant to enter.

An undo, in this cafe, is not a deletion. It is a gentle return. The crumbs reassemble. The cup rises off the floor. The friend you meant to call is somehow already calling you.

Stay as long as you need. Nobody is keeping the time but the steam, and the steam is forgiving.

Afternoon Light

A second chance is not a second life.

It is the same life, with the lamp moved closer.

The mistake remains — only now it has cream in it, and a saucer underneath, and the chair across from it is no longer empty.

Come again.

— the cafe is always here, even when you are not.
