an intimate gathering
in the spirit of imperfect beauty
A gathering held in the spirit of wabi-sabi — the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection, transience, and incompleteness. Not a celebration of achievement, but of presence. Of being here, together, without pretense.
Every gathering leaves traces — the stain of wine on a tablecloth, laughter that echoes longer than expected, a conversation that never quite found its ending. These are not flaws. They are the material of memory.

We gather not to perform connection but to find it. The long table, the shared dish, the silence between stories — these are the forms through which renai.party moves. Unhurried. Present. Warm without being loud.
侘び寂び — wabi-sabi — teaches that the broken teacup, repaired with gold, is more beautiful than the unbroken one. We carry this into every evening: what has been used, worn, loved, is honored above the pristine.

Those drawn to quiet beauty. Those who arrive ready to be present.
Gatherings are intimate by design — twelve guests at most. Each evening begins at dusk and ends when the conversation does. There is no program, no schedule. There is good food, good silence, and the particular warmth of a well-tended table.
Only yourself. Perhaps something handmade, if you are moved. The table will provide the rest.
Each renai.party takes place in a different space — a friend's studio, a private garden, an atelier borrowed for an evening. The location is revealed only to invited guests, a week before. The space is always intimate. Always carefully arranged. Always returned to stillness when we leave.
Long enough for everyone to see each other's faces. Set with things that have histories — mismatched ceramics, candles worn low, linens washed many times. Nothing is new for the sake of newness.
