a studio note · 林 · namu

A quiet study of living systems, composed in ink and unhurried light.

namu — “tree” in Korean — is a small studio practice arranged as discrete modules of pigment, paper, and patience. Each block below is its own composition; together they read as a single unrepeatable page.

first principle

“What is contained will eventually bleed past its boundary.”

on practice

Brushstrokes show their velocity.

We do not smooth the work after it is finished. Pigment pools unevenly. The grain of the paper asserts itself. What you see below is the studio, not the storefront.

field notes

We work as the hanok curves its eaves — lifted slightly at the corners, never insisting on a straight line.

The grid is the loom; the modules are the cloth. Each block below carries its own internal weather: a wash here, a seal there, a number that counts something quiet.

Read it the way you would read a scroll — not to find a conclusion, but to be in the company of an unhurried hand.

a small offering

“The tree does not measure the season — it lets the season measure it.”

commissions, slowly

We accept a small number of pieces each year.

Identity systems for studios, books, and quiet brands. Our pace is the pace of pigment finding the edge of the page — no faster than that, no slower.

colophon

Set in EB Garamond and Cormorant Garamond. Composed as modular blocks on a 12-column loom. Watercolor textures rendered procedurally — no two visits share an identical bleed.
