The Ordinary World
Every story begins somewhere familiar. The protagonist exists in their known world, unaware that everything is about to change. This is the ground from which the arc launches.
The Call to Adventure
Something disrupts the ordinary. A letter arrives, a stranger appears, a discovery is made. The story asks its central question for the first time.
Rising Complications
Obstacles multiply. Each scene raises the stakes higher than the last. The protagonist is tested, alliances form and fracture, and the central tension tightens like a coil.
The Climax
The peak of the arc. Everything the story has been building toward converges in a single, irreversible moment. The protagonist faces their greatest challenge and is transformed.
Resolution
The tension releases. Consequences are felt, lessons absorbed, and a new equilibrium is established. The world is the same but different -- and so is the person moving through it.
