The lane darkens by memory before it darkens by cloud. One blue stain loosens in the map corner, then another; window latches pause, birds tuck their sentences away, and the first damp mineral breath rises from the road.

Every roof becomes a drum skin. The gutters write in slanted silver. Names of streets dissolve into creeks, then reappear as if the city has been repainted by listening.
