The Housekeeping Quest Codex

Chapter I

Vestibule Bell

The manor opens when the bell-pull remembers your hand. A gloved steward has pinned three keys to the wainscot and labeled each one with a room that has not yet been built.

Tug the cord once. Let the threshold decide whether you have arrived.

Chapter II

Linen Observatory

Sheets lie folded in astronomical stacks. When the press exhales, the hems flutter with weather: rain in the guest room, fog for the nursery, a dawn breeze reserved for apologies.

Fold thunder back into sheets before the house wakes.

Chapter III

Silver Pantry

Every jar contains a small domestic sky. The spoons are arranged by moon phase, the sugar tongs sleep in velvet, and a silver tray reflects corridors that no broom has reached.

Rescue the moon from the tray without spilling its light.

Chapter IV

Mirror Stair

The stair curls both upward and inward. In the mirror, a maid you have not met yet dusts tomorrow from the banister and leaves a brass key turning slowly in the air.

Polish the glass in circles small enough for a secret.

Chapter V

Dust Library

Here dust is a script, not neglect. It gathers on ledgers, portraits, and sleeping atlases, spelling names that the manor refuses to lose.

Sweep only after the motes finish their sentence.

Chapter VI

Dawn Room

The final room is almost empty: polished floorboards, a basin of soap foam, and curtains bright enough to forgive the night. Each finished errand releases a clean beam of brass-gold morning.

Stand still while the house folds itself into light.
