What is Layer 2?

Imagine a botanical press: vellum stacked over vellum, each translucent sheet preserving an impression of the specimen below. The base chain remains the original flower, immutable and precious.
Layer 2 is the lighter sheet above it. Transactions arrange quickly there, then return as compressed proofs — petals of truth that can be checked without re-growing the entire garden.
