Chapter 01 — the arrival

SETTLE. HERE.

A community zine for anyone who has ever put a box down, looked out a new window, and decided that this — right here — is where the story begins.

scroll to settle

Put the kettle on — you made it.

Chapter 02 — the story

To settle is not to stop moving. It is to let a place hold you the way a mug holds steam patiently, warmly, without hurry. We press our names into streets like ink onto paper, and the paper learns us back.

§ a footnote

The word settle shares a root with seat, saddle, and sit. It has always been about finding a place to rest the body.

Every doorway is a welcome mat in disguise.

Chapter 03 — the mosaic

Settling is a plural verb.

01 — threshold

A door is a hinge between who you were and who you are becoming.

In Greece, the katofli — the threshold stone — is kissed by returning travellers. In Korea, a high wooden sill keeps shoes outside so the house stays soft.

02 — table

A table grows an extra leaf for every new face.

03 — stitch

The strongest cloth is the one that's been mended.

Borrowed motifs, returned with gratitude. Greek key — Kente stripe — Sashiko dash.

Somewhere is a word you become, not a place you find.

Chapter 04 — the welcome

You're already here.
