The Glass Pavilion
A notation on structures built from lamplight — how to hold softness inside a right angle without bruising either.
The art of revealing by concealing.
Every identity is a procession of masks. The one we wear at dawn is not the one we carry at dusk, and the face beneath them all is only another arrangement of light.
The Masquerade Protocol is not a system for hiding. It is a liturgy for selective disclosure — a geometry of partial truth. We build circles that admit only certain sightlines. We draft triangles that shelter the tender middle. We let the lavender dusk decide which edges to keep.
To participate is to agree: what is revealed was always going to be revealed, and what remains concealed was never yours to pry for. The protocol keeps the rhythm. The dance keeps the rest.
The hall fills with lanterns of green and violet light. Each guest enters wearing a shape — a circle for candor, a triangle for the unsaid, a square for the keeping of a secret. The orchestra drafts a fugue out of silence and breath.
Partners exchange. The circle meets the triangle at the threshold of the waltz; the square rotates forty-five degrees and becomes, briefly, a diamond. A violin holds one long note and for that moment nothing is concealed — not even the concealment itself.
Before the masks are lowered, the dancers withdraw. In the courtyard a single wildflower has opened under the aurora. It is a kind of answer. No one asks which dancer it belonged to. No one needs to.
Scroll, and the protocol relents.
