A merchant once boasted of a spear that could pierce any shield, and a shield that could block any spear. When asked what happens when the spear strikes the shield, he had no answer. This is mujun — the space where logic folds in on itself, where two truths exist simultaneously, and where understanding begins not with resolution but with acceptance of the impossible.
There is a paradox in crafting contemplative spaces from electricity and logic gates. Every pixel is a decision, every animation a choreographed breath. The zen garden was always artificial — stones placed by human hands, gravel raked into patterns that nature would never produce. The digital garden merely makes the artifice explicit. In doing so, it becomes more honest than the stone garden ever was.
Beauty lives in the obsolete. In the warm amber glow of vacuum tubes. In the gentle hum of a transformer that has worked for forty years. The circuit board, seen at the right angle, is a city plan drawn by monks — every trace a meditation path, every solder joint a prayer bead.
