A single pole. A singular design.
The magnetic monopole — predicted by theory, never observed. A design object of elegant impossibility.
Dirac's Quantization
In 1931, Paul Dirac demonstrated that the existence of even a single magnetic monopole would explain the quantization of electric charge throughout the universe. A particle carrying isolated magnetic charge — north without south, a singularity of elegant necessity.
Radial Symmetry
Unlike the dipole's figure-eight, the monopole's field radiates uniformly outward from a single point — perfect spherical symmetry. Every direction equivalent, every field line extending to infinity without return.
Never Found
Decades of experiments — cosmic ray detectors, particle accelerators, superconducting loops — have yielded no confirmed detection. The monopole remains theoretical: beautiful in its absence, powerful in its implication.
Design as Inquiry
monopole.design treats the unseen as material. We work at the intersection of theoretical physics and visual form — designing experiences that honor the elegance of what cannot be directly observed.
