The sketch

Every finished thing was once a rough line on scrap paper. Prototyping is the art of making your ideas tangible before they're ready, giving form to the half-formed so you can hold it, turn it, and see where the light falls on its unfinished surfaces.

There is a particular courage in showing work that isn't done. The prototype doesn't pretend to be the final version. It wears its incompleteness honestly, inviting revision rather than defending itself against it. Each iteration strips away one more layer of assumption.

The best prototypes aren't precious. They're made to be broken, rebuilt, and broken again. Each cycle of destruction and reconstruction leaves behind something slightly more true, slightly more aligned with the shape the idea always wanted to take.

The iteration

v0.1

First mark on paper. The idea is barely a shape, more a direction than a destination. Rough, uncertain, alive.

v0.2

Structure emerges. Lines find their relationships. Some paths are crossed out and redrawn.

v0.3

The T-square comes out. Alignment, proportion, measurement. The draft becomes a drawing.

v0.4

Details fill in. The prototype gains weight and specificity. It starts to look like something real.

v0.5

Almost there. The form holds together. One more pass and it will be ready to stand on its own.
