A glass library hovering above a watercolor landscape.

gur.al is a curated archive of knowledge rendered through the lens of watercolor illustration and glassmorphic transparency. The walls of the reading room have dissolved into translucent washes of indigo and sepia, and every surface reflects like frosted glass.

§ 02 · ochre wash
ref.02.a treatise i

On the discipline of dissolving walls.

Every surface is a membrane: transparent enough to admit light, opaque enough to suggest depth. The scholar writes not on paper but on the membrane itself — pigment pooling at the edges, pulling the eye toward the margins where the truer annotations live.

ref.02.b treatise ii

The cauliflower effect, and other welcome accidents.

At the boundaries where two colors meet while still wet, pigment concentrates into irregular dark edges. Watercolorists call this the cauliflower effect. Some spend years trying to avoid it. Others spend decades inviting it in.

The site you are reading invites it in.

§ 03 · teal wash
ref.03.a entry 03.a

Marginalia, pulsing.

Notes in the margin do not explain the text; they argue with it. In this archive the arguments are silent and slow — a 0.5 to 0.8 opacity oscillation, once every three seconds, forever.

fol. iv · verso
ref.03.b entry 03.b

Ruled lines, in sequence.

The ledger breathes line by line. Fifty milliseconds between each faint horizontal mark; a notebook filling itself from the top down, never finished.

Terminal precision over watercolor imprecision.

Share Tech Mono is a typewriter kept in a library that floods once a year. Source Sans 3 is the librarian who keeps the notes dry. Together they set the terms of the page: rigid grid over soft wash, structured knowledge dissolving into artistic expression — disciplined creativity.

§ 04 · colophon
ref.04.a colophon

Set in Share Tech Mono & Source Sans 3.

Printed, figuratively, on frosted parchment. Layered with three watercolor washes, one grain overlay, and four ink splashes rotating once every two minutes. No photography. No raster imagery. Everything you see is generated at page-load, then warped by an SVG turbulence filter that never stops remembering it is liquid.
