The Beauty of Uncertainty
Probability is not merely a branch of mathematics. In Korean philosophical tradition, the concept of 인연 (inyeon) — the fated connections between all things — suggests that what we call chance is simply the pattern we have not yet learned to read.
The Buddhist principle of dependent origination (연기, yeongi) teaches that nothing arises independently. Every outcome is the consequence of innumerable conditions converging — a web of causation so vast that it appears, to our limited perception, as randomness.
In the celadon kiln, the potter surrenders control to fire and chemistry. The crackle glaze (빙렬) that emerges is neither planned nor accidental — it is the visible trace of probability expressed through matter.
P(A|B) is not a cold formula. It is a question: given what we know, what might the universe become? Every conditional probability is an act of imagination constrained by evidence.
