The Worn Leather Notebook

A hand-stitched journal with rough-cut pages that drinks ink like soil drinks rain. Found at a weekend market between jars of wild honey.

Cast Iron Skillet, Unmarked

Generations of seasoning give it a dark mirror finish. Heavier than expected. Cooks eggs like no modern pan can dream of.

Brass Compass, Slightly Off

Points two degrees west of true north. The previous owner scratched tiny constellations into the lid. A beautiful imperfect thing.

Handmade Beeswax Candles

woodland scents

These candles smell like a forest after rain - petrichor mixed with warm honey and a whisper of pine resin. Made by a beekeeper who keeps hives in an old oak grove. The wax is unbleached, a deep golden color, and each candle is slightly different in shape. They burn for twelve hours with almost no smoke.

Wool Blanket from a Mill Town

textile finds

Found this at an estate sale in a town that used to make nothing but wool. The blanket is dense enough to stop wind, soft enough to sleep under without sheets. The pattern is a simple herringbone in undyed cream and brown. There is a moth hole near one corner that someone darned with mismatched thread, and that mend is my favorite part.

Clay Mug, Kiln-Kissed

ceramics

The potter calls the dark spots where the flame touched the glaze kiln kisses. This mug has three of them, each a different shade of amber. It holds exactly the right amount of tea. The handle is wide enough for two fingers. The clay is local, dug from a riverbank. Lovely but slightly too heavy for long conversations.

The best things I own were never meant for me. They were made for someone who lived differently, in a slower time, and I am just borrowing their good taste.
