Day 147 — Found another colony near the thermal vent at 1,200m. The bioluminescence is stronger here, pulsing in a rhythm I haven’t recorded before. Three specimens collected. The water temperature anomaly persists.

Environmental Log
THERMAL VENT LOG
Day 153 — Located the primary vent at 13°N, 104°W. Temperature exceeding 380°C at the chimney mouth. Riftia pachyptila tube worms cluster in dense colonies around the base.
The shimmer of superheated water distorts everything above the chimney. Through the porthole it looks like a desert mirage transplanted to the deep ocean floor.

Day 162 — The submersible ascent begins at dawn. Twelve weeks at depth have yielded 47 catalogued specimens, 23 environmental logs, and one encounter I still cannot explain. The deep ocean remains the largest unexplored territory on our planet. I will return.
