01 Introduction

The Prototype Manifesto

Every great product begins as a rough sketch, a fleeting thought captured in wireframes and clay. At prototype.bar, we document the journey from concept to creation — the messy, beautiful, iterative process of building something new.

Our approach embraces Scandinavian restraint: clear lines, honest materials, and the belief that the best designs emerge through relentless simplification. We strip away ornament to reveal structure.

02 Process

Iterative Architecture

The prototype is not the product. It is the question made tangible. Each iteration peels back assumptions, revealing what the design truly needs versus what we imagined it might.

i. Observe — Map existing patterns and behaviors without judgment
ii. Abstract — Reduce observations to essential structural elements
iii. Construct — Build the minimum viable form that tests the hypothesis
iv. Evaluate — Measure against intention, then iterate or discard
03 Materials

Honest Substrates

Nordic design tradition teaches that materials should never pretend to be something they are not. Plywood reveals its layers. Concrete shows its pour marks. In digital prototyping, we honor this by exposing the grid, the baseline, the system underneath.

" The prototype should whisper its construction method. Let the skeleton show through. "

Our material palette draws from the space between analog warmth and digital precision — cream papers rendered on luminous screens, teal accents that recall both vintage oscilloscopes and aurora borealis.

04 Systems

Component Taxonomy

A prototype system is only as strong as its smallest repeatable unit. We build from atoms upward: color tokens, type scales, spacing rhythms. Each component carries its own documentation, its own reason for existing.

Purple / Aurora #8060A8
Steel / Primary #181820
Cream / Ground #E8E0D0

These tokens form the visual DNA of every prototype we document. Consistency across iterations allows meaningful comparison — the variable changes, the system remains.

05 Documentation

Living Records

Every prototype deserves to be remembered — not as a failure or a success, but as a waypoint. Our documentation captures the intent, the constraints, the surprises. It transforms ephemeral experiments into permanent knowledge.

We structure documentation as a continuous scroll, mirroring the iterative nature of the work itself. There are no chapters, only an unfolding narrative of discovery. Each section builds on the last, creating an archaeology of ideas.

06 Future

Beyond the Prototype

The prototype is a bridge between imagination and reality. It exists in a liminal space — too real to be a dream, too rough to be a product. Our work celebrates this in-between state, finding beauty in the unfinished, meaning in the provisional.

As this journal continues to grow, each entry adds another layer to our understanding of what prototyping means in a post-digital world. The tools change. The materials evolve. The questions remain the same: What are we making, and why does it matter?
