Rollup Taxonomy
Fraud Proofs
Transactions are assumed valid by default. Challengers can submit fraud proofs within a dispute window to revert invalid state transitions. Simpler to implement, longer finality.
Validity Proofs
Every batch includes a cryptographic proof of correctness. Zero-knowledge proofs guarantee validity without revealing transaction details. Instant finality, complex circuits.
Self-Settling
Rollups that define their own canonical chain without settling on a base layer. Data availability is external, but consensus is internal. Maximum sovereignty, novel security model.
Sequencer Decentralization
Using the base layer's proposers as sequencers. Inherits the base layer's liveness and decentralization guarantees. The simplest path to credible neutrality.
