A QUIET PLACE FOR STRUCTURED THOUGHT
the raked line
A sequence of curves, each one displaced by a fixed interval from its predecessor. Find the interval that produces a closed form -- the curve that returns to its origin after exactly seven deflections.
stone arrangement
Five stones in a garden. No two share a row, column, or diagonal of the invisible grid. One stone is fixed at the center. Place the remaining four so that the total distance between all pairs is minimized.
moss counting
A colony doubles each day. On the thirtieth day it covers the entire stone. On which day did it cover exactly half the stone? The answer is not what you expect when you consider the boundary conditions.
shadow paths
In darkness, every path looks the same. But the practiced walker knows: the texture of gravel changes at each turning. Map the garden by touch alone. The solution requires no sight -- only presence.
