The aesthetic is **avant-garde fashion-lookbook applied to the economic atlas** — but the lookbook is not a runway, it is a survey. ## Layout Motifs and Structure

**Palette — ethereal-blue (5% in the registry, claimed) reframed as fluorescent-planning-room-cyan rather than dreamy-fairy-mist:**

1. **Avant-garde at 2% — claimed as fashion-lookbook-of-the-economic-survey, not as anti-design noise.** The 2% of CMassC sites tagged avant-garde have leaned anti-design — broken type, intentional ugliness, dada-collage, manifesto-shouting. economic.wiki refuses that route. Avant-garde here is *Comme des Garçons applied to urban planning*: the rigorous deconstruction of a complete object (a city's economy) into oversized isolated specimens laid out across a wall, the way a couture lookbook isolates one garment per spread. The avant-garde is in the *editorial format* — seven heroes, no menu, no CTA, no conventional navigation — not in surface chaos.

The contradiction is the design: grounded does not have to mean warm. A 4 AM drafting table is as grounded as a kitchen garden, and considerably more honest about what economics actually looks like.

3. **Progressive-disclosure at 1% — the rarest interaction pattern — promoted from "occasional micro-detail" to *the entire site's navigation grammar*.** The 1% of CMassC sites that use progressive-disclosure use it as a polite supplement (a tooltip, a "show more" link, a hover-card). economic.wiki refuses to ship a menu.
